About Japan Festival

Japan Festival is a non-profit festival celebrating Japanese culture in the UK. We aim to encourage cultural acceptance, connect new audiences, and make international arts and cultures accessible to all.

Japan Festival started life as a film festival in Lincoln, created by Blueprint Film Foundation (now Blueprint Arts). Then over time, we introduced a few workshops and performances and grew into a celebration of the varied culture of Japan.

Each Japan Festival is jam-packed with workshops, performances and events designed to engage, inspire and enthral. This allows participants to experience the joy of Japanese culture first-hand.

After a 2-year break, the festival is now based in North Kent, with Japan Festival 2022 taking place in and around Gravesend.

Our 2022 programme includes 2 days of pre-festival school workshops alongside our main event day on Saturday 19th February, with activities for all ages. To keep the festival inclusive and widely available to everyone, we have kept ticket prices as low as possible. Workshops include manga-drawing, sushi-making, tea ceremonies, Bon dance and more.
